There are a number of benefits of coworking that lead individuals and businesses to work in these shared spaces. However, you do have to go out of your way to make sure you’re making the most of what’s on offer. In this article, we’ll go through seven ways that you can take advantage of being in a coworking space.
The main benefit of coworking that differentiates it from alternative is the community factor. Here at Workit Spaces, we really believe that you should be able to lean on those around you. We’ve created a diverse and supportive community. Individuals and small businesses should definitely be taking advantage of these opportunities and help to build the community.
Go to events within the coworking space
First and foremost, most coworking spaces run regular networking and community events. These are the perfect opportunities for you to meet other people working nearby. If your coworking space runs workshops, they’re a great way for you to pick up a new skill or to improve on existing ones.
At Workit Spaces, we run a tonne of events, everything ranging from BBQs, seminars, workshops and breakfasts. Our next event will be held tomorrow, the 17th of September at 10am! In the ground level kitchen at Mandible St, we’ll be running a health seminar with Sabina Sulovsky. She’ll give ninja tricks on how to combat stress and live a healthier lifestyle.
Use the common areas
If you’ve been spending your entire work days in your desk, office or showroom, it might be time to branch out a bit. Try having lunch in the kitchen or finding a nice couch to work on. You’ll get the chance to mix up your environment and to take advantage of what your coworking space has to offer. Plus, it’ll be easier to get to know the rest of the community.
Get to know the staff in the coworking space
This may sound like an odd tip but it could be very useful to get to know the staff in your coworking space. For example, at the Mandible St eCommerce Hub, you’ll find Audrey, our Community Manager. She has a strong grasp on who else is in the hub as well as how everything works. If you’re looking for someone or need help, she’s your go to!
Join the online community
Most coworking spaces will have some type of online community that you can join. At Workit Spaces, you can join the Slack channel to get involved. There, you’ll find people actively asking questions about running a small business or eCommerce business. It’s a great place to get support and to support others.
Invest in productivity
Now of course, the community aspect is great but it can have its downsides. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tune out all the distractions. To make sure you can get the best of both worlds in a coworking space, it could be useful to invest in your productivity. This could involve getting noise cancelling headphones or sectioning off your part of the office with a room divider.
